PUNE government agencies will now have to bear the cost of digging the road as the Pune city administration has presented a proposal to the standing committee, asking government agencies for costs.

Various government agencies such as Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL), Maharashtra State Electrical Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and other agencies lay their pipelines and network in the city. For the laying of their infrastructure, these agencies dig city roads and also use the property of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Considering that the municipal administration suggested charging filing fees for these agencies.

One of the officials on condition of anonymity said, “All of these agencies charge commercial rates to PMC like other private organizations. If these government agencies apply the same tariffs for PMC for using electricity bills, CNG gas and land line facilities, PMC should apply the same principle to them as well and there is no need to give them a concession. “
